The Whitecoast City Railway Wiki is written by players of Whitecoast City Railway (WCR), the UK-inspired railway simulator on Roblox. Anyone can read it. It is written by its Wiki Editors, and looked after by its Wiki Administrators.
Who does what
Guests
Anyone reading without signing in. Guests read every page, and can create an account from the top of any page.
Users
Anyone signed in. Users read the wiki, as Guests do. An account is the first step to becoming a Wiki Editor.
Wiki Editors
The volunteers who write the wiki, chosen by the Wiki Administrators. Wiki Editors edit and create pages, take part on discussion pages, upload pictures and move pages. What they save is public straight away, except pictures: a Wiki Administrator checks each upload before it appears. They can also see the history of edits (page histories, older versions, recent changes and people's contributions), so they can spot and undo each other's mistakes.
If you would like to become a Wiki Editor, make an account and ask a Wiki Administrator.
Wiki Administrators
They oversee the wiki. Wiki Administrators can do everything Wiki Editors can. They also approve the pictures Wiki Editors upload, look after the wiki's settings, deal with vandalism, protect and delete pages, and choose the Wiki Editors.
Checking edits
Edits go live as they are saved, so Wiki Editors keep an eye on each other's work:
- Open recent changes.
- Read any edit you haven't seen with its diff link.
- If something is wrong, edit the page to put it right, or undo the edit from the page's history.
How to write
Project:Conventions has the wiki's conventions in full. In short:
- Write for someone who has just joined the game for the first time: short sentences, plain words, one idea per paragraph.
- Explain what the player sees on the screen and what to do about it.
- Link to other pages the first time you mention them.
- Add each page to a category, such as [[Category:Stations]] or [[Category:Guides]].
- Use the templates for boxes of facts, tips, keys to press and signal aspects, so every page looks the same.
- Preview before you save. Readers see your edit as soon as you save it.
