View source for Project:Templates

Templates are ready-made parts of a page: a box of facts, a tip, a key to press. Type the code in the left column where you want the part to appear. In the visual editor, choose '''Insert''' › '''Template''' and type the template's name; it asks for each value.

Each template's own page explains its options. [[:Category:Templates]] lists them all. [[{{ns:Project}}:Conventions]] says when to use them.

== At the top of a page ==
{| class="wikitable"
! Template !! What it is for !! You type
|-
| [[Template:Lede|Lede]] || The opening paragraph, in larger type. || <code><nowiki>{{Lede|What the page is about.}}</nowiki></code>
|-
| [[Template:Infobox station|Infobox station]] || The key facts about a station, in a box beside the text. || <code><nowiki>{{Infobox station | lines = … | platforms = … }}</nowiki></code>
|-
| [[Template:Infobox train|Infobox train]] || The key facts about a train, in a box beside the text. || <code><nowiki>{{Infobox train | type = … | top_speed = … }}</nowiki></code>
|-
| [[Template:Infobox line|Infobox line]] || The key facts about a line, with its colour, in a box beside the text. || <code><nowiki>{{Infobox line | colour = #1976d2 | termini = … }}</nowiki></code>
|}

== Notices ==
These go at the top of a page, and come off when they no longer apply.
{| class="wikitable"
! Template !! What it is for !! You type
|-
| [[Template:Outdated|Outdated]] || A game update may have made the page wrong. || <code><nowiki>{{Outdated|V2}}</nowiki></code>
|-
| [[Template:In use|In use]] || You're working on the page over several edits; others should wait. || <code><nowiki>{{In use|Your username}}</nowiki></code>
|-
| [[Template:Delete|Delete]] || Asks a Wiki Administrator to delete the page. || <code><nowiki>{{Delete|Why it should go.}}</nowiki></code>
|}

== Under a heading ==
{| class="wikitable"
! Template !! What it is for !! You type
|-
| [[Template:Main|Main]] || The page that covers the section's subject in full. || <code><nowiki>{{Main|Page name}}</nowiki></code>
|-
| [[Template:See also|See also]] || Pages on related subjects. || <code><nowiki>{{See also|Page|Another page}}</nowiki></code>
|}

== In the text ==
{| class="wikitable"
! Template !! What it is for !! You type !! You get
|-
| [[Template:Aspect|Aspect]] || A signal aspect: red, yellow, double yellow or green. || <code><nowiki>{{Aspect|yellow}}</nowiki></code> || {{Aspect|yellow}}
|-
| [[Template:Key|Key]] || A key to press, or keys pressed together. || <code><nowiki>{{Key|Shift|W}}</nowiki></code> || {{Key|Shift|W}}
|-
| [[Template:Unverified|Unverified]] || After a fact nobody has checked in the game yet. || <code><nowiki>{{Unverified}}</nowiki></code> || {{Unverified}}
|}

== Controls ==
[[Template:Controls|Controls]] makes a table of keys and what each does. Write <code>Shift+W</code> for keys pressed together, and <code>W/Up</code> for keys that do the same thing.
<pre>
{{Controls
| W/Up | What the first key does.
| Shift+W | What the two keys do together.
}}
</pre>
{{Controls
| W/Up | What the first key does.
| Shift+W | What the two keys do together.
}}

== Boxes ==
{{Tip|A shortcut or a better way of doing something: <code><nowiki>{{Tip|…}}</nowiki></code>.}}
{{Note|Something worth knowing that doesn't fit the flow of the text: <code><nowiki>{{Note|…}}</nowiki></code>.}}
{{Warning|A mistake that is easy to make, and what it costs: <code><nowiki>{{Warning|…}}</nowiki></code>. Use it sparingly.}}
{{Theory|A theory or rumour from players, and what it's based on: <code><nowiki>{{Theory|…}}</nowiki></code>. Never write one into the text as fact.}}

If the text of a box has an equals sign (<code>=</code>) in it, start it with <code>1=</code>: <code><nowiki>{{Tip|1=…}}</nowiki></code>.

== Routes ==
[[Template:Stops|Stops]] draws the stops of a route in order, with a dot at each. Each stop links to its page.

<code><nowiki>{{Stops|First station|Second station|Third station}}</nowiki></code>

{{Stops|First station|Second station|Third station|link=no}}

== Cards ==
[[Template:Card|Card]] makes a card that links to a page, as on the [[Main Page]]. Put the cards in a grid:
<pre>
<div class="wcr-cards">
{{Card|link=[[Page]]|text=A line about the page.}}
{{Card|link=[[Another page]]|text=A line about it.}}
</div>
</pre>

== At the bottom of a page ==
[[Template:Stub|Stub]] marks a page that has only the basics so far, and adds it to [[:Category:Stubs]] so others can find it and add to it. Take it off when the page covers its subject.

<code><nowiki>{{Stub}}</nowiki></code>

[[Template:Navbox|Navbox]] links the other pages on a subject, such as every station on a line. Make one template for each subject, with the Navbox in it, and put that template at the end of each of those pages. Its page explains how.

[[Template:Clear|Clear]] starts what follows below an infobox, rather than beside it: <code><nowiki>{{Clear}}</nowiki></code>.
